Hardy spinach

For a first autumn greenhouse crop, the choice of variety matters. Check its recommended sowing period and whether you want baby leaves or larger plants.

Sow and label

Use the packet’s depth and spacing guidance. Record the variety and actual sowing date so you can compare germination against a realistic window.

Observe before intervening

Keep moisture reasonably consistent without saturating the roots. Inspect crowded seedlings and thin only when ready, using the intended harvest spacing.

Keep expectations seasonal

Growth slows as light declines. Bolting is the development of a flowering stem; identify the cause and crop condition before deciding what to do next.
