A colourful, month-by-month plan for the greenhouse and its surrounding herb pots. Pick a month to see what goes in and what comes out. The dates include Percy’s morning walks, Friday reviews, Sunday plans and seasonal jobs.
Choose a day
Start here · September 2026: the supplied photographs show an empty greenhouse. Sow autumn salads, rocket and coriander; use young parsley plants for quicker picking. Summer harvests in this calendar describe future established crops, not plants already in place. Plan the first full summer season for 2027.
Everything, across the year
Planning windows for an unheated greenhouse in Cheshire. Weather and the seed packet take priority over the month. Early tender sowings need a warm, bright room or propagator.

Several colours in one square mean overlapping jobs across different batches. Blank squares mean no scheduled action, not an empty bed. Click a crop or coloured square for its location and growing notes.
Where everything goes
Based on your photographs; planting zones, not a construction drawing.
Six cordon plants, mixing cherry and medium eating tomatoes. Train upright and leave the louvres accessible.
Two greenhouse cucumbers at one end; four sweet peppers at the other. Final placement depends on light and usable bed lengths.
Small salad batches, basil, parsley and white alyssum. Jalapeño and cayenne in separate pots on a suitable firm support; keep walking space free. Leave half a staging section for work.
Contained mint; rosemary, thyme, sage and oregano in drained pots. Dill in a deep pot and coriander in a cooler spot. White cosmos beside the greenhouse, without shading it.
Counts are starting targets, not a shopping order. Recorded internal footprint: 8.4 × 3.1 m. Confirm bed dimensions before spacing plants.
Keep it working beautifully
- Warmth before dates. Aim for settled nights around 12°C for peppers and chillies, and 15°C for greenhouse cucumbers. Tomatoes also need protection from cold nights. Keep tender plants inside longer if needed.
- A small sowing, often. Repeat lettuce, rocket and coriander every 2–3 weeks during their suitable windows. Give leafy crops a cooler position in high summer.
- Water and air. Check pots daily in warm weather. Keep low vents and roof openers unobstructed; ventilate on warm days and watch for overheating.
- Prepare the empty greenhouse. Remove gravel weeds; check drainage, growing medium, finished threshold and staging load rating. Photos cannot confirm these details.
- White and green. Use white ornamental varieties. Trim coloured herb flower buds if maintaining that display. Dill seed production requires yellow flowers: keep those pots in a separate kitchen-growing spot.
- Winter is slower. Choose winter lettuce varieties; harvest lightly in cold spells. Evergreen herbs provide modest pickings, not rapid winter regrowth.

The groundwork
The greenhouse foundations in July 2026.

Built & ready
The structure is complete, with the beds ready for their first planting.
Awaiting the real photograph
Planted & growing
Repeat the front view, corner view and both end beds when plants are in place. Add an established-growth set later.

A preview, not the after photograph
The generated view illustrates the vegetables and white-flower palette. It predates the full chilli and herb additions and is not an exact plan: some bed details differ from the real structure.
Watch the greenhouse grow. We will photograph the same views as the greenhouse changes, from the empty beds to new planting and the first harvests.
Timing assumptions & growing references
This is a practical planning interpretation of RHS guidance for an unheated Cheshire greenhouse, with conservative spring moves and seasonal outdoor herb pots. It is not a weather forecast. Harvest bands assume earlier sowings or established plants; cultivar, light and temperature alter results. Plant bands for perennial herbs mean buying and settling a plant once, not replacing it each month. No new tropical spice crops have been added.
