LATE AUTUMN / OBSERVE & PROTECT

November in an
unheated greenhouse.

Shorter days mean slower growth. Care for what is actually there.

Three priorities

  1. Inspect leaves and stems for pests, mould or damage.
  2. Keep safely accessible glazing clear enough to admit daylight.
  3. Pick modest outer leaves only from well-established suitable crops.

Before you start

A quiet greenhouse is not a failed greenhouse. Growth follows the daylight.

Check which crops are actually present, their stage of growth and the instructions for their varieties. Move a job if its conditions are not met. A blank harvest record is more useful than an invented success.

A useful five-minute inspection

Look at moisture, temperature and new growth. If foliage looks damaged, inspect both sides and take a clear photograph before deciding on a treatment. Water the growing medium only when needed.
