LATE SPRING / SETTLE IN
May in an
unheated greenhouse.
Move towards summer planting when the greenhouse is warm enough for each crop, not simply when May arrives.
Three priorities
- Plant out suitable young tomatoes and peppers only when conditions permit.
- Install supports before large plants make access awkward.
- Check moisture and begin appropriate feeding at the crop’s recommended stage.
Before you start
Keep cold protection available and do not cram every planned plant into insufficient space.
Check which crops are actually present, their stage of growth and the instructions for their varieties. Move a job if its conditions are not met. A blank harvest record is more useful than an invented success.
A useful five-minute inspection
Look at moisture, temperature and new growth. If foliage looks damaged, inspect both sides and take a clear photograph before deciding on a treatment. Water the growing medium only when needed.
