← The growing year

WINTER / LITTLE WINS

December in an
unheated greenhouse.

Protect established crops, record what worked and prepare a simple plan for the coming season.

Three priorities

  1. Check crop protection and the minimum thermometer.
  2. Check moisture before watering and avoid prolonged saturation.
  3. Review actual sowings and harvests before making next year’s plan.

Before you start

If nothing needs doing, a one-minute inspection counts. Then put the kettle on.

Check which crops are actually present, their stage of growth and the instructions for their varieties. Move a job if its conditions are not met. A blank harvest record is more useful than an invented success.

A useful five-minute inspection

Look at moisture, temperature and new growth. If foliage looks damaged, inspect both sides and take a clear photograph before deciding on a treatment. Water the growing medium only when needed.
